The candidate seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, support staff, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
As teachers we are not only in the classroom to share knowledge with, and assess our students. We are also there to guide and lead them in school and as they develop into people. In my music classroom I will strive to be a mentor for my students, and to be transparent with their families, and my colleauges within the school. Each student needs their own support system, whether it is their friends and family, or a teacher. That group could also consist of a counselor or para-professional for some students. As their teacher it is my job to communicate with students, families, and colleauges to help me determine what kind of leadership role I will play in that student's educational career. This does not mean a structured conversation will be had to say "I will lead you this way, and you this way", but rather the communication is through watching my students, and being open to them. My door is always open to a student, family member, or colleague that has a concern. Working through any concerns or issues in a positive way will lead to greater student success, which means that my role as a "leader" in my students' schooling will be flexible and vary depending on the situation.
Attached artifacts include a document on working with "stakeholders" in education. The videos are from lessons taught at both the secondary and primary levels during my student teaching, after which I fostered a discussion with teachers and administrators about the lessons and my goals for the students in the lessons.
