The candidate understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in relevant ways.
Students in all classrooms learn in different ways, and as teachers it is our responsibility to draw upon those learning styles to help our students understand of our own content, as well as the content of other teachers. It is also vital that our students build connections to other content outside of our own, and develop skills to apply their learning in the real world. In my classroom I plan to directly show my students the real world application of our content, and the application of history, literature, art, math, and physics to music. I also plan to guide my students to create their own connections to their lives within the music content, and other contents. These real-world connections foster retention and use of the information outside of assessment. That is, afterall, the goal of a teacher; to give students a real world application for their learning.
Attached artifacts include documents on various learning styles and an article on the real world applications of music education. Website link is below. The video is an example me during my student teaching semester, working with the Blue Valley Northwest HS Jazz Ensemble.
